These photographs tell this story in a way that only pictures can. Aircrew, aircraft – both ready for action and destroyed, gun crews, demolished streets, surviving churches, searchlights and tracer at night time, and yet more destruction, battleships, submarines and freighters in harbour and offshore, farm scenes, people in and out of uniform and unexploded bombs.
